If you haven’t found the perfect Father’s Day gift yet, fear not. While we always carry a great selection of products, we’re especially well stocked on dad-specific gift ideas. For example, there’s a wide array of quality personal care products, including beard oils, soap, and shaving supplies. Duke Cannon soaps are among our favorites—they come in a gargantuan size that won’t get all small and soggy within a few uses, and have great scents with hilarious names like ‘productivity’, ‘accomplishment’ and ‘victory’. If there are still children in the house, we can recommend Handy Dad in the Great Outdoors. This book is filled with projects that dads can do with their kids. It’s a great gift that can help foster even more quality time between kids and parents. Of course, those are just a few examples. If your dad could use a new wallet, bag, or even a new book to read, we’ve got you covered. Come in and as always, you can ask one of us for help with ideas.
Mother’s Day is just over a week away, so if you haven’t already, it’s a great time to stop in for a card and a gift for mom. We’ve got some particularly great gifts made by local artists and craftspeople, such as bath salts, body butter, and scrubs from Priya Means Love. With everything that mom does, it’s a great way to say ‘sit back and relax’.
Another lovely, local product line comes from Open Eyes Press. We’ve been carrying their artwork and kitchen goods for a while now, but we especially love their newest line of garden-themed tea towels. These towels are designed and printed right here in Baltimore, and would make the perfect gift for any mom that spends a lot of time in the kitchen.
Speaking of local artists, two *awesome* ones will be in the shop for our Mother’s Day event on Friday, May 6th, from 4-8pm. Yummy & Company will have a pop-up jewelry shop, and Kacey of Found Studio will have a kid-friendly paper flower craft activity. Stop in for shopping, fun, and snacks from MOM’s Organic Market!
After the freak-ish weather this past Saturday, hopefully the warmer weather is here to stay. Now is the perfect time to pick up some supplies for your garden, and we’ve got a bunch of neat gardening products in stock! Specifically, we’re carrying a great selection of planters and vases if you’re looking for something more unique than your standard terracotta. There’s also some beautiful tools that are both attractive and utilitarian.
We also have great kits for those people who don’t think they have that ‘green thumb’, such as self-watering planters. All you have to do is plant the seeds and let it take care of itself. There’s also packets of seed bombs that you just have to scatter in a bare area in your backyard. Regardless of your level of expertise, growing plants should and can be enjoyable!
“Adult” coloring books have been all the rage for a minute now, and if you’re a fan, we’ve currently got a huge selection of titles in stock! Whether you’re looking to pick up a copy of “Secret Garden”—the book that started it all, or interested in branching out into something new, we’ve got you covered. Also, we’ve finally got colored pencils in stock! They’re double-sided and a nice break from your standard Crayola colors.
Long time no post! We’ve been busy in the shop with all the excitement of the holidays, and we’d like to thank everyone in the community for your continued support! As an FYI, we’ll be open on Christmas eve, but close at 5 pm. We’re closed on Christmas, and open the 26th until 5:00. We close at 5 on New Year’s Eve, and will be closed on New Year’s day. Have a very merry Christmas, and happy New Year!
We’re always eager to try out new food products, so naturally we wanted to take a shot at making bread from Soberdough mixes. Hand-made in small batches from all-natural products, Soberdough mixes make it easy for anyone to make delicious brew bread at home.
The instructions are super simple: you mix in a bottle of the beer of your choice, pour it in to an oiled bread pan, and bake for 45 minutes. Even without any baking experience, we had an amazing, warm loaf of bread in just an hour’s time! We’re carrying the Roasted Garlic, Green Chile Cheddar, and Buffalovin’ Wing varieties at the Baltimore store, so come pick up a pack and try for yourself!
Recently, Chris Rothe from Write Notepads & Co invited the Trohv staff down to his book-binding joint in southwest Baltimore. We were happy to oblige, since we love seeing behind the scenes of our local vendors.
Chris is a third-generation bookbinder, so he knows what he’s doing. Write Notepads & Co uses old-school technology to produce high-quality notepads. Massive, Heidelberg letter-presses are used with vegetable based inks to print the board stock covers. They are then filled with plain or lined paper. Each Write Notepad is made of high-quality, American-sourced components. We are proud to carry their oh so popular Baltimore Limited Edition notepads, which were recently featured in Baltimore Magazine.
For every notebook sold, Write Notepads & Co donates a companion notebook to a Baltimore City student. Inside each notebook is a code that you can look-up on their website to see which school will receive the donation.
We were thrilled when Chris informed us that we would be making our own notebooks during our visit. After a quick demo, Chris set us up on their Vandercook press and an image from the Globe collection, and we got to work. A few days later, Chris dropped off our assembled notebooks and some other Write Notepad goodies.
Much gratitude to Chris and his teammates Dave and Jon-Michael for the tour and hospitality!
We’re always excited to partner with artists and craftspeople from Baltimore, and we’re pleased to say that we’re now carrying a selection of furniture from Sandtown Millworks. Their pieces are as local as it gets—not only is all their furniture built right here in the city, but the materials also come from old Baltimore houses. It’s a wonderful way to prevent quality wood and metal with a century’s history from going to waste in the trash. You can contact them directly for build-to-order options, or see unique, one-off pieces in our Baltimore location.
Join us this Sunday, July 19th at the Takoma Park location for a terrarium workshop with B.Willow! Liz from B.Willow has a wealth of knowledge and experience with indoor plant design, so even if you think you don’t have a green thumb, you can learn to make a beautiful tropical terrarium that requires little upkeep. If you’re near the DC area, this is a great opportunity to learn from all that Liz has to offer. You can reserve your spot here, and your ticket includes all supplies, along with drinks and snacks.
We’re always big fans of objects that are both beautiful and functional, but there’s always a place for things in the house that are just for decoration. Right now we have a great selection of home accents that came from the natural world, whether it be mineral or botanical. Here’s just a small selection of what we have—come in to see everything we’ve got!
